Please note that counselling is regulated on a provincial and territorial basis in Canada. In order for a clinician to be able to see you for your confidential virtual mental health counselling, you must choose a clinician who is licensed to practice in the province or territory where you live. If you happen to choose a clinician outside of the province/territory where you live, your appointment will be cancelled.

If you have a First Nation status number or an N number, you may be eligible to receive up to 22 hours of counselling each year through the National Indigenous Health Benefits (NIHB) program. Most of our clinicians are registered with the NIHB program, but please confirm prior to booking. If you aren’t sure, call our Office Auntie at 1-833-277-5678 to learn more.

Registered Social Worker Candidate Mi’kma’ki of Membertou First Nation, guided by the teachings and traditions of Indigenous ways of knowing, being and doing.

Licensing: Nova Scotia

Languages: English, understand some Mi’kmaq and speaks a little.

Education: Master of Social Work Indigenous Field of Study, Wilfrid Laurier University Bachelor of Social Work Degree, Dalhousie University Bachelor of Arts Community Studies Degree, Cape Breton University

Client base: Preteen, teenagers, Adults.

My practice is guided by the Medicine Wheel Framework, individualized plans for wellness and healing, and the Two-eyed Seeing Framework (Etuaptmumk), which is a guiding principle for collaborative work relevant in fields like social work within First Nations communities. Etuaptmumk was created by Mi’kmaq Elder Albert Marshall. This framework promotes a balance with respect to integrating both Indigenous & Western Perspectives.

My approach to helping draws from mental health and crisis support, navigation and advocacy of community resources, and collaboration with individuals to ensure we work on a plan for wellness in unity.

My experience comes from living through many of my own childhood and motherhood experiences, the resilience I have created within myself, and the experience of many barriers along my own journey of healing. I believe this is what has led me here on this path of being a helper.

I have a strong passion for helping families seeking assistance with resources and supports for children who may have autism, survivors of the foster care system and the sixties scoop era. I have a background in Indigenous Child Welfare, Indigenous homelessness, Indigenous victims’ services, autism support and residential care. I have worked in the human services field for over twenty years.
